Starting our ascent
This shot was taken near the beginning of our hike up to Black Tusk. You can see the black tusk in the center of the photo.

We are now at the base of the tusk.

The tusk is formed from black volcanic rock. The tusk doesn't seem to have any snow on it at this time of year. The rocks seem to stay really warm because they absorb the sunlight. They are actually warm to the touch.

It is hard to get a good sense of height from this image. The photo was actually taken from the summit of the tusk.

Ulric on his way down from the peak. You can get a good idea of the type of rocks the tusk is composed of. The entire surface of the tusk seems to be made from fragments of rocks.

Well, we made it back in one piece. It felt great to get those packs off our backs.
